- .___________________________.______________.
- | HAYES V9600 CONFIGURATION | *FOR SYSOPS* |
- !___________________________!______________!
-
- In order to get a Hayes V9600 v.42 to communicate at anything above 2400, you
- need to make a few changes.
-
- This is what needs to be done (a '*' means that the command is necessary for the
- BBS to work properly, in most cases):
- (Note: this is for a Red Ryder Host board on a Macintosh. Your BBS program may
- be slightly different.)
-
- Needed Type: Meaning:
- ------ ----- --------
- * AT&F Factory settings, clearing modem.
- ATL1 or ATE0 The first lowers the speaker volume, the second
- disables sound.
- ATE0 Disable character echo for commands.
- * AT&C1 Monitor Carrier line.
- AT&D3 Monitor DTR line. With this option set, you
- can use a 'DTR hangup', where your BBS
- will only need to drop DTR to hang up.
- AT&S1 Monitor DSR line.
- * AT&K0 No flow control.
- * ATS0=1 Auto Answer, first ring.
- * AT&W0 Store these settings in user profile 0.
-
- Now, to Init your modem, you need to type:
- ATZ Partial reset.
-
- A Hayes V9600 v.42 modem is compatable with:
- Hayes V9600 or Hayes V9600 v.42
- USR HST Dual Standard
- Prometheus 9600
- Telebit Trailblazer, new edition
- ... and any other standard 9600 bps modem.
- A Hayes V9600 v.42 modem is NOT compatable with:
- UST HST
- Telebit Trailblazer, old edition
- ...and any other non-standard 9600 bps modem.
-
- If you have a Hayes V9600 (old edition):
- You can upgrade to a V9600 v.42 free of charge by sending your modem
- back to Hayes, asking them to upgrade it. There are MANY special deals for
- SysOps of Hayes V9600's (you get $25 for every V2400 upgrade you sell, a free
- modem for every 4 V9600's you sell, or a V9600 itself for $400). Your users
- also get discounts on any mail-order-from-Hayes stuff, including a $300
- discount to upgrade a 2400 Smartmodem to a V2400 (double or triple speed.)
- Let Hayes know your a SysOp and ask about this stuff!
-
- Communicating at 2400 or below:
- In order to communicate easier at 2400 or below, it is recommended that
- you turn off the special Hayes error checking. You can do this with a AT&Q0.
- Type AT&Q5 to get back. If the other modem is a Hayes V series, then leave
- error checking on, otherwise turn it off.
-
- Recommended settings:
- In personal use, this is what I'd recommend using with your Hayes V9600:
-
- Terminal program: Microphone ][ (for Macintosh)
- Speed: 19200 (will automatically drop if less)
- Protocol: XMODEM 1K or ZMODEM.
- Settings: Put "Hardware Handshake" ON in the
- communications options.
- Other: The smaller you make your terminal window, the
- less time the computer takes to update
- the screen.
- Bugs: ATZ doesn't reset to config 1 even if the AT&Y1 is set.
-
- My BBS is using 2 Hayes V9600 v.42 modems, if you want to test your modem with
- it, or get further info. (We have an account on Hayes' BBS as well as a Hayes
- rep on our board.)
